Dance in My Back Yard – Eroca Nicols / Lady Janitor (Toronto)

Dance in My Backyard (DIMBY) brings Made to Order dances to intimate backyard settings in Ottawa. Designed to blur the lines between private and public performance, DIMBY offers the chance to sidle up with friends and neighbours, babies and dance buffs, and behold the sights and sounds of hot-off-the-grill contemporary choreography co-created by you and the dancers in the lush absurdity of a fully blooming backyard.

Made to Order is built around Lady Janitor’s ongoing search for people to describe their ideas around art and dancemaking; but here, the visions become reality.

Made to Order works like this: audience members complete and submit a questionnaire indicating their preferences regarding as many variables in a dance as possible (music, site, lighting, costumes, mood, movement quality, etc.) Lady Janitor and crew follow the recipe, make the dance and present the finished product as live improvisation to the creator and the crowd. Is this a dance show or a barbeque? You decide.
