Room with Sticks – 10 Gates Dancing (Ottawa)

Dancer / Choreographer Tedd Robinson returns to the CDF with a new work created with Toronto-based dancer/choreographer Ame Henderson and composer Charles Quevillon. Room with Sticks brings elements of the surrounding physical environment – ambient sound, light and elements of the landscape – inside to the performance venue. Initially created for a specific space (a barn in the woods) the remount will incorporate the idiosyncrasies and unique aspects of an urban site, which in turn will inform the very essence of the work itself.

When: Friday, June 14 at 8:00pm and Saturday, June 15 at 3:30pm

Company biography

Since its inception, 10 Gates Dancing has created an exceptional body of work for some of the most renowned dance artists and companies in Canada and holds a unique role in the field of dance through its mentorship activities with choreographers in Canada and abroad. Artistic Director, Tedd Robinson is the true force driving 10 Gates Dancing Inc., regularly bringing together a variety of collaborators from multiple disciplines to create his master works.

Robinson returned to Ottawa in 1990 to pursue his solo career, and is now firmly established as a choreographer, educator, and solo artist. His work is deeply influenced by his six years of study as a monk in the Hakukaze soto zen monastery, Ottawa. Robinson’s critically acclaimed, award-winning and utterly unique works have won him a multitude of commissions and an international schedule of touring and teaching.

Robinson has a long history with the CDF as a performer, choreographer and former board member. His company last performed at the CDF in 2002, though his choreography was most recently presented in 2012 as part of an evening of work commissioned by the Ottawa Dance Directive.

Tedd Robinson is a founding member of Projet BK, and is a National Arts Centre Associate Dance Artist.
